How to build your website:

Create an account:

  1. To make sure you don't lose your shopping cart, start by creating a new account. All you need to sign up for an account is a username and valid email address (your password will be emailed to this address).
  2. Check your email for your password and log in to the website.
  3. Click on the "Edit" tab to change your password to something memorable, and click the "Submit" button at the bottom of the screen.

Start building your website:

  1. Every one of our websites starts as a base site, which includes all of the functions a basic website. These features include:
    • a content management system that allows you or a site administrator to to add content to your site
    • a secure log-in that allows only authorized users to make changes to your site
    • basic pages which contain text, links or photos, as well as basic text edit functions (bold, italic, etc.)
    • a contact form, which allows visitors to email you without publicizing your email address
    • a simple, blue layout called "garland", which can be changed by changing the site design
    • basic search capabilities
  2. After adding the base site to your cart, view a slideshow of site designs to see if there are any designs more appropriate for your website.
  3. Next, browse upgrades to decide which extra features are appropriate for your site. For example, an artist would want a site that includes a photo gallery, and a restaurant would want a site that includes a food and beverage menu.

What about content?

  1. You can populate your site with content (i.e., detailed information on your pages, like a page about your business, directions to your store, etc.), because most of our sites come with introductory training (phone or email) on how to get started.
  2. If you would like additional training, you can add more phone or in person (Western Washington only) training to your cart.
  3. You can get help with adding content by adding thePopulate Content upgrade. With this upgrade, we populate your site with the basic categories available on the populate content form.
  4. If you have a lot of content or content that falls outside the categories on the populate content form, you can add custom content population to your cart.

You can logout at any time, and return to your cart later by logging back into your account. If you're ready to buy your website, go to the checkout page and follow the instructions. Remember, because websites are all different, you may need to add or remove upgrades during the build period. This website makes it easy to keep track of your costs along the way!
